Ceyla has over a decade of experience in renewable energy technologies gained through her impressive work in academia. After completing her doctoral studies in materials for Thermoelectric Generators at Queen Mary University of London, she transitioned into the commercial world in 2023, starting her loss adjusting career with Renewable Energy Loss Adjusters (RELA). Then, along with the entire RELA team, Ceyla joined forces with Crawford in 2024 to help expand and grow our existing renewable energy offering.
Ceyla has already gained experience through handling numerous claims involving solar, wind and battery energy storage systems as well as conducting pre-risk engineering surveys. She also contributes to technical white papers as well as fostering industry discussions on social media.
Prior to achieving her doctorate at Queen Mary University, Ceyla’s academic trajectory and its link to sustainable energy began in 2012 at Bilkent University in Ankara, Türkiye. For some ten years, she then travelled to, and studied at, renowned educational establishments as far afield as Illinois, Catalonia, Kingston upon Thames and Bavaria – with stints at MIT and Harvard for good measure.
“I really enjoyed this phase of my higher education,” explains Ceyla, “and studying at several different universities really helped me to broaden and deepen my knowledge. But much as I loved research and development work, there came a point where I realised that I didn’t want to be forever in the laboratory – I wanted to understand the more practical and hands-on side of the renewable energy sector and realised that I could achieve this through loss adjusting.”
While Ceyla travelled extensively during her academic studies, London is her dream city, so as well as taking up her scholarship at the Queen Mary University of London, it made sense for her to seek employment there, too, and in November 2023, Ceyla secured a position with RELA, transitioning with them into Crawford in Oct. 2024.
“It’s very different in the world of loss adjusting,” adds Ceyla. “But I see myself as a problem-solver and I really enjoy the process of investigating losses and providing technology-based explanations and solutions. RELA’s transition into Crawford allows me to carry on overlaying my scientific knowledge with an ever-growing understanding of the insurance and financial elements of losses in the renewables sector.”
