Updates
Aug 27, 2026
Authorities in Nepal and China continue to assess the scale of the disaster following severe flooding on the Nepal-Tibet border on 26 August. Early reports indicate that a glacial collapse triggered a sudden surge of floodwaters, causing extensive damage to communities and infrastructure in affected areas.
Search, rescue and recovery operations remain ongoing, and the full extent of property, infrastructure and business interruption impacts is still being assessed. Given the presence of hydroelectric and power generation facilities along river systems in the affected region, the insurance market will be monitoring potential damage to energy infrastructure alongside wider commercial and residential losses.
Crawford's teams in China and India are prepared to mobilise in support of clients as access and local conditions allow. They are backed by colleagues across the Middle East, London and Singapore, providing specialist technical expertise and major and complex loss support.
Our energy and power specialists are also available to assist carriers and reinsurers in evaluating potential impacts to generation, transmission and associated infrastructure as further information emerges.
Our specialists are prepared to assist with:
- Property damage assessments
- Major and complex loss adjusting
- Energy and power generation claims
- Business interruption evaluations
- Infrastructure and construction losses
- Reinsurance support and coordination
- Recovery planning and client support
As the situation continues to develop, Crawford remains committed to supporting the insurance market and affected communities through response, assessment and recovery efforts.
