The evolving role of the adjuster

With the pandemic causing such a state of flux, the combined impact of these evolving market conditions could potentially slow down the insurance process. Be it through more challenging renewal discussions, reduced capacity, more stringent T&Cs or, increased burden of proof, reassessed conditions and more intensive causation examination – these ever-changing factors could stall the insurance cycle at multiple stages.

However, many people believe this is where applying the full scope of the role of the claims adjuster can make a significant difference:

“In my view, the loss adjuster will continue to act as the oil that lubricates the cogs of the insurance machinery. Our role as an impartial operator in the insurance process is a unique one and our purpose is to ensure the smooth and efficient management of any claim by playing an increasingly proactive role.”

In fact, he believes there are multiple stages within the insurance claim process where loss adjusting services, specialist knowledge and access to unique data will become increasingly important in the current market climate:

  • Working with companies to support their scenario planning efforts.
  • Working closely with companies during renewal negotiations to ensure that intent is clear and representation is complete.
  • Engaging with companies to develop comprehensive and effective claims programs.
  • Bringing fairness and impartiality to the burden of proof process.
  • Making sure that causation analysis is properly understood.

Crawford has been working with clients to create company-specific claims programs to ensure claims processes continue to run as smoothly as possible – particularly where the potential for large or highly complex risks exists.

With restrictions in many countries easing and operations beginning to restart, we’re working with clients to support this transition. With employee health and safety high on the agenda, we’re providing a range of practical services, from decontamination services to designing and implementing comprehensive reintegration programs.
