Career journey
Since joining Praxis, Chris has been an integral part of the leadership team supporting the company’s aggressive expansion, during which Praxis has nearly tripled in size. He contributed significantly to guiding the organization through a seamless M&A integration with Crawford, ensuring client commitments remained uninterrupted. Through the collective efforts of the team, annual recoveries have increased by 375 percent, and long‑standing client partnerships have continued to strengthen, with some spanning more than two decades.
Redefining subrogation
For Chris, subrogation is far from unexciting backend work. “What other role gets to see the entire process from beginning to end?” he says. “If not for subrogation, premiums would increase, deductibles would be lost forever and negligent parties may never be accountable for the harm caused to others. Investigating and piecing together the evidence on a difficult file has a certain satisfaction to it. Landing a favorable recovery after rounds of negotiations and laying out your position provides a taste of victory. Folks can sleep easier knowing that subrogation professionals are out here battling for justice.”
Embracing technology, valuing expertise
Chris is quick to recognize the impact of technology on the industry, noting that while AI is streamlining subrogation results,
“there is still no substitute for the human touch and expertise when we’re talking about capturing and maximizing every opportunity.”
He believes that data quality and judgment remain essential, even as automation advances.
Leadership philosophy
His leadership style is rooted in authenticity and accountability. “Be a genuine person and be honest and open with people. Maintain clear and realistic expectations, hold each other accountable, address issues immediately and celebrate the wins. If you treat others like people, they’ll be there for you, and everything will work out.” Chris empowers his competitive team by communicating challenges clearly, trusting them to make decisions and removing roadblocks so they can rise to the occasion.
Advice for newcomers
Chris’ advice for those starting out in subrogation is simple and direct: “Buckle up. It will be a scenic ride! Understand the important part you play in the bigger picture. You won’t know everything and there are times you’ll feel unsure. Be resourceful, persistent and inquisitive. You’ll see something new every day. Stay proactive in pursuit and professional in demeanor. Oh, and use the phone!”
Above all, Chris credits a lesson from a mentor that continues to guide him: “Listen to understand, not to respond.” It’s a philosophy that shapes his approach to leadership, client relationships and the ongoing success of Praxis.
Chris’ dedication to his team and clients, his commitment to authentic leadership and his passion for subrogation continue to drive Praxis forward, setting a standard for excellence in the industry.
