For Tony Lin, a background in structural engineering provided an unexpected pathway into the world of loss adjusting. As a new member of Crawford Taiwan's next generation of technical talent, Tony is building a career at the intersection of engineering, problem-solving, and claims management. Today, he combines technical expertise with practical problem-solving to support complex engineering and construction claims across Taiwan.
Tony joined Crawford in December 2025, attracted by the opportunity to take on new challenges within an international enterprise. With a graduate thesis focused on offshore wind turbine substructures and credentials as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in Taiwan, he brought valuable technical expertise to the team from day one.
Since joining Crawford, Tony has investigated and supported a wide range of engineering and construction claims, including those involving MRT and LNG construction projects, power plants, solar farms and offshore wind developments. Alongside his claims work, he pursued his Loss Adjuster Certificate and achieved outstanding results in Taiwan's Loss Adjuster Examination, further strengthening his industry credentials.
One aspect of the profession that continues to fascinate him is the variety of claims adjusters encounter.
"Before joining Crawford, I had no idea there could be so many different types of claims. What fascinates me most is how we piece together small clues and limited information to get closer to the truth. Even now, I still find this aspect of the job very interesting."
For Tony, one of the most rewarding aspects of loss adjusting is the opportunity to solve complex problems by combining technical analysis with effective communication.
His engineering background allows him to understand complex technical issues and translate them into practical information for insurers, brokers and clients. In a recent claim involving damage to an offshore wind turbine blade, his previous design experience and understanding of policy coverage helped bridge discussions between the insured and broker.
In the past months, Tony has expanded his knowledge beyond civil engineering and offshore wind projects, gaining exposure to solar energy and power generation facilities. He credits much of his development to working alongside experienced colleagues and hopes to continue strengthening not only his technical expertise but also the communication and negotiation skills required to support clients effectively.
Looking ahead, Tony sees significant opportunities in Taiwan's growing renewable energy sector and hopes to further develop his expertise in major engineering claims while building deeper relationships with clients.
"The devil is in the details."
A simple phrase that captures both Tony's engineering mindset and his approach to claims investigation. What motivates him most is the opportunity to solve complex problems and help clients achieve fair and reasonable outcomes following unexpected losses.
His professional philosophy is straightforward: seeing is believing. Tony believes that regardless of the size or complexity of a claim, adjusters must remain objective and base their assessments on evidence and facts. Professionalism and impartiality are principles he strives to uphold throughout his career.
Outside work, Tony enjoys staying active through sports and fitness. A former university volleyball player, he continues to be passionate about the sport. He also enjoys reading manga and comics, as well as unwinding with animation after a busy day.
When asked what advice he would offer someone entering this industry, his answer reflects the mindset that has guided his own development:
"Be open-minded, keep learning, and build good relationships with people."
As Taiwan's infrastructure and renewable energy sectors continue to evolve, professionals like Tony represent the next generation of talent helping clients navigate increasingly complex risks. His commitment to continuous learning and Crawford's focus in developing the next generation of technical talent. As the industry evolves and new risks emerge, professionals like Tony are helping to shape the future of claims handling in Taiwan.
