Crawford and our partner in France, Stelliant, are responding to claims following the civil unrest and riots that affected a number of European cities over the weekend of 17 October, with significant damage reported in France and Italy.
In France, demonstrations over the rising cost of living and public services escalated into widespread disorder on 17 October. While hundreds of thousands took part peacefully, rioting was reported in cities across the country, with public buildings targeted and shops, including luxury boutiques and supermarkets, looted. Serious incidents were reported in Paris, Limoges, Marseille and Lyon.
Paris was among the worst areas affected, with reports of shops being looted, vehicles set alight and windows smashed, particularly around Place de la République and Boulevard Magenta. As of 20 October, targeted overnight curfews have been introduced in Paris and several other major cities as authorities seek to control further rioting and looting.
Unrest has also affected Italy. In central Milan, protests on 17 October developed into clashes and disorder, with stores looted and property set on fire. The disruption affected the area around Piazza del Duomo and the city's luxury shopping district.
Against this backdrop, Crawford and Stelliant are supporting clients with claims arising from the unrest, drawing on our local operations and network partners across the region.
France
In France, claims are being handled through Crawford's network partner, Stelliant, which has mobilised teams to support insurers, brokers and their customers following the damage.
The immediate focus is on getting affected businesses back on their feet, securing damaged premises, protecting property from further loss, assessing the damage and supporting repair and reopening.
Stelliant has established a 24-hour emergency response, with pre-assessment targeted within 24 hours and a full assessment within 72 hours. Where the nature and extent of the damage allow, Stelliant is aiming to support the reopening of affected premises within five to 10 days through its repair solutions.
Rapid assessment, mitigation and repair can be critical in reducing disruption and helping businesses resume operations. Stelliant also offers solutions to protect storefronts from vandalism for potential future events.
Italy
Crawford is also responding to claims in Italy following the disorder in Milan, where commercial property has been among the areas affected.
Our teams are supporting clients as losses are reported and assessed, providing local claims expertise alongside Crawford's wider European resources.
Supporting clients across Europe
With the situation continuing to develop, Crawford is monitoring events across Europe and remains ready to respond to new claims and client requirements.
Our priority is to help clients understand the extent of their losses quickly, protect affected property, progress claims and support businesses as they work towards resuming normal operations.
