Updates
Aug 11, 2026
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on 10 August 2026, with its epicentre near San José del Palmar in the Chocó department. Strong shaking was felt across much of the country, including Bogotá, Cali, Pereira, Manizales and Quibdó. Authorities have confirmed fatalities, injuries and significant damage to buildings and critical infrastructure, while search and rescue operations continue across the affected areas. Multiple aftershocks have also been recorded.
The Colombian government has declared a state of emergency and activated national response protocols. Emergency personnel remain focused on life safety, damage assessments and restoring essential services, while transportation and airport operations in several cities have experienced temporary disruptions as inspections continue.
Crawford's operations in Colombia remain fully operational. Our local team is actively monitoring developments, maintaining close communication with employees, clients and business partners, and is prepared to support insurers with claims arising from this event.
Our experienced adjusters are ready to respond across a broad range of losses, including commercial and residential property, business interruption, engineering and specialty claims. Should additional resources be required, Crawford can rapidly mobilize support through its regional and global catastrophe network.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
