Super Typhoon Yutu rips through the Northern Marianas Islands
Super Typhoon Yutu ripped through the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands on Thursday causing heavy destruction in the islands of Saipan, Tinian and surrounding areas.
The storm struck the islands mentioned with torrential rains and sustained winds of 180mph. Part of the island of Saipan and all of Tinian were reported to be within the eye of this major storm.
Widespread damage is anticipated to infrastructure, telecommunication, hotels, commercial properties, businesses and residences. President Trump declared the typhoon a disaster in the CNMI just prior to the storm hitting the area.
Crawford’s associate based in Guam will visit the larger island of Saipan in the next few days when Saipan International Airport re-opens. We are liaising with all relevant local insurers, brokers and agents to determine what assistance is needed.
Crawford Asia offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines have placed adjusters on stand-by at the request of our associate Trinity Pacific to assist with the adjusting response once the initial field report from Saipan is received.
