Updates
Jan 28, 2026
Gathering force late on Monday Jan. 26, named Storm Chandra has since brought severe winds, snow, heavy rain, and widespread flooding across the UK and Ireland, leaving tens of thousands of homes facing power outages. Major travel disruptions and school closures are reported, with emergency services responding across all regions.
While some areas saw weather alerts downgraded or withdrawn late on Tuesday Jan. 27, many ice, rain, and wind warnings still remain active. Continued residual flooding, power restoration challenges, and travel disruptions are likely as further bands of rain move across already waterlogged ground.
A major flood incident has been reported in Somerset. Powerful gusts of up to 80mph (130kph) were reported in parts of Ireland and in County Wexford the river Staney has burst its banks, leaving homes and businesses under several feet of water.
Flood risks in many areas will continue to remain high through Wednesday and into Thursday. Homeowners, businesses, and communities should remain alert to local official guidance around flood warnings and travel safety.
Weather fronts are still active and likely to be so for another 24 hours. This, combined with many homes without power, as well as the possibility of rural – and some urban – communities being difficult to access, means that we expect to see a rise in claims volumes across the next few days and into the weekend.
Crawford is already responding to claims and supporting affected communities across the UK and Ireland. Our people are prepared to manage increased claim volumes, and adjusters are available to visit customers in affected areas as soon as access allows.
You can be sure that Crawford will be there with the right team, the right technology, and the right processes to help restore lives, businesses and communities.
We will provide more updates as they become available.
