Earthquake Strikes near Anchorage
On Friday morning, November 30, an earthquake registering a 7.0 in magnitude struck Anchorage, AK. A tsunami warning immediately followed, but experts quickly rescinded it when they were able to rule out the threat.
A 7.0 magnitude is considered moderate. The rating takes into consideration the depth of the quake, along with the severity of the shaking and extent of the damage. Thankfully, there were no casualties and no injuries reported at this time. However, infrastructure damage is reported to be widespread; photos of the aftermath depict massive fissures in major roadways and other structures.
Catastrophe Services immediately set up an event in RENOVO so that adjusters could indicate their availability to respond. RENOVO allows the CAT team to source adjusters based on availability, areas of expertise and location, making deployment more rapid and efficient. In addition, WeGoLook Lookers can survey damage via Looks and drone flights. Contact them directly to schedule a Look.
According to Bev Trice, president, CAT Services, “Though we are still waiting to hear more about the full extent of the damage, we expect homes, businesses, and roads to need extensive repair. Our adjusters are ready to respond to incoming claims.”
