Spain

Spain continues to face one of the most significant wildfire events in its history, with more than 77,000 hectares affected across parts of the country. Crawford Spain has deployed loss adjusting teams to impacted areas, where they are already working to assess and quantify damage and support insurers, businesses and policyholders through the recovery process.

The fires serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact such events can have on communities. Behind every hectare burned are homes, businesses and families facing significant disruption and uncertainty. Crawford extends its support and solidarity to all those affected, while recognising the extraordinary efforts of emergency response teams working tirelessly to protect lives and limit further damage.

As the immediate emergency response continues, Crawford remains focused on helping affected individuals and organisations begin the recovery process as quickly as possible. Our teams are working with urgency, compassion and commitment to support those impacted and help them return to normality in the weeks and months ahead.

France

The wildfire crisis in France continues to have a significant impact, particularly in the Gironde region near Bordeaux, Cap-Ferret and the Arcachon Basin, where more than 42,000 hectares have been destroyed by fire. The scale of the event is approaching the record set during the 1949 Great Fire of the Landes de Gascogne, when 52,000 hectares were burned.

Despite some improvement in conditions on the ground, the consequences remain severe. More than 220,000 residents and 13,000 businesses have been evacuated, while the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports that around 130,000 employees have been unable to work due to the disruption. Tourism in the region has effectively come to a standstill, and France's Ministry of Ecology has described the damage to wildlife as catastrophic.

The economic impact is expected to be substantial. Industry reports suggest reconstruction costs could be unprecedented for insurers, exceeding losses recorded during the Gironde wildfires of 2022, when insured losses reached approximately €80 million across an area roughly half the size of the current event. Reforestation costs alone are estimated at between €200 million and €400 million, based on planting costs of €5,000 to €10,000 per hectare.

Crawford's network partner, Stelliant, has established a dedicated crisis team to support claims arising from the wildfires and is ready to assist clients impacted by the catastrophe.

Spain

The most severe fire is centred west of Madrid, impacting the Ávila and Toledo regions. According to local reports, more than 77,000 hectares have been affected, making it one of the largest wildfires in Spain's history. Thousands of emergency personnel have been deployed and large-scale evacuations have taken place as authorities work to contain the blaze.

Crawford Spain is actively responding to claims arising from these events, supporting clients and policyholders as losses are assessed and recovery efforts begin.

France

France is facing significant wildfire activity in the Gironde region near Bordeaux, Cap-Ferret and the Arcachon Basin, as well as parts of the south-east of the country. The fires have resulted in major evacuations and large-scale emergency operations.
