Southern California, United States

Overview
July 4th Earthquake in California is the Largest in 20 Years
The largest earthquake to strike Southern California in two decades, a 6.4 on the Richter scale, rocked areas from Las Vegas to Long Beach. No deaths or serious injuries were reported, but emergency personnel is monitoring Ridgecrest and surrounding areas.
An estimated 15 million people felt the quake, but the damage was minimal due to proximity to the sparsely populated Searles Valley. More than 28,000 have reported power outages, and minor structural damages have occurred. Over 150 aftershocks have been detected since the quake, and scientists say there is a 50% chance that another large earthquake could occur over the next week.
